What is EMI Shielding?

Electromagnetic interference (EMI) can disrupt the operation of electronic devices and affect the performance of surrounding equipment. EMI shielding helps reduce electromagnetic emissions by limiting electromagnetic energy entering or escaping from a display, while also protecting internal electronic circuits from external interference.

For display applications, EMI shielding incorporates conductive materials into or onto the cover lens structure while maintaining transparency and visual performance. These conductive layers help block or attenuate electromagnetic energy, reducing EMI transmission through the display.

Silver Coating

Silver coating provides high electrical conductivity and effective electromagnetic shielding performance for EMI shielding glass. BSI’s upgraded silver coating technology enhances surface oxidation resistance while maintaining high transmittance and excellent viewing angles.

Transmittance: ≥ 85%

Shielding Effectiveness: -26.5dB

Frequency Range: 300 MHz – 1.5 GHz

ITO (Indium Tin Oxide) Coating

ITO coating is a widely used EMI shielding method, applying a thin, lightweight, and electrically conductive coating to glass or film substrates. It offers high optical transparency and visibility while providing effective EMI shielding. ITO-coated glass and film can also be customized through cutting, punching, and adhesive tape applications for specific EMI shielding and display requirements.

Transmittance: 76%

Shielding Effectiveness: Up to 30 dB

Frequency Range: 100 MHz to several GHz

ITO Sputtering Targets (Raw Materials): High-purity (99.9%∼99.99%) oxide ceramic source materials used for depositing transparent conductive films.

Diameter Spec: Min. 0.5" to Max. 18"

Metal Mesh

Metal mesh uses a highly conductive copper grid with low sheet resistance to provide effective EMI shielding performance across a broad frequency range. The ultra-fine copper mesh is treated to enhance oxidation resistance while maintaining high optical transparency.

Transmittance: ≥ 75%

Shielding Effectiveness: Up to 100+ dB (9400 Film ), Up to 63 dB (MT85)

Frequency Range: 10 MHz to 4 GHz

Benefits of
EMI Shielding

EMI/RFI shielding reduces electromagnetic emissions from displays while protecting internal electronic circuits from external electromagnetic interference. This helps minimize interference between the display and surrounding electronic equipment.

EMI shielding protects sensitive display components, sensors, and electronic circuits from electromagnetic interference that can cause signal disruption, operational errors, or malfunctions.

EMI shielding glass is designed to provide effective electromagnetic shielding while maintaining high transmittance, optical clarity, and display visibility, making it well suited for display applications

EMI shielding glass can be customized with different shielding materials, structures, sizes, and processing options to meet the specific requirements of various display applications.
